How to link to a specific time in a YouTube video

  1. Paste the video link. If it already carries a time (&t=), it is picked up.
  2. Type the moment as 1:23, 1:02:03, 83 (seconds) or 1m23s.
  3. Choose the long youtube.com/watch or short youtu.be form and press Copy link.

Doing it by hand

Add &t=83s to a watch link or ?t=83 to a youtu.be link, where the number is seconds. On YouTube itself: pause at the moment, right-click the video and choose Copy video URL at current time, or open Share and tick Start at. In comments and descriptions, a plain 1:23 becomes a clickable timestamp.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timestamp work on phones?

Yes - in the browser and in the YouTube app, which opens the video at that second.

What is the difference between t=83 and t=1m23s?

None for YouTube; both mean 83 seconds. Plain seconds is the safest form.

Can I make the link stop at a time too?

Not in a normal link. An embedded player accepts start and end parameters - see the embed code generator.
